Some of our communities are thriving while others struggle with empty stores, crumbling roads and crime. Yet we know that smart, targeted public investments can turn around troubled areas.
I’ve helped direct our precious public dollars to projects that have made real differences – North Main Village in Milwaukie, and rebuilding Division Street in Gresham, the waterfront in Oregon City, the street car on Portland’s eastside, as well as Main Street in Cornelius. With Metro’s help those communities and others are becoming safer, more vibrant communities that attract economic growth and people.
A Record of Success:
- I was a founding trustee of the nationally recognized Coalition for a Livable Future, which unites more than 50 citizen groups on the issue of sustainability.
- As a parent-volunteer, I helped establish the Northeast Community School, an innovative, diverse charter school in Portland
- I’ve been honored as the 1998 Most Effective Citizen Advocate in the metro region by 1000 Friends of Oregon and as a 1999 founder of a New Northwest by Sustainable Northwest
